This year’s science fair assignment is to build a Rube Goldberg machine, and to prepare for the build, Mr. Duque used science class to provide hands-on experience with building before the February break. Throughout the week, students found examples of Rube Goldberg machines using the Google Chromebooks, discussed how to count steps, and constructed simple machines applying their knowledge using the materials provided.

By having a hands-on experience, Mr. Duque hopes to spark students’ creative thinking and minimize the fear of beginning a machine of their own over the break. Should students get stuck or face difficulty, they need not face it alone. Students will continue to post their questions and strategies for the science fair using their Google Apps for Education accounts at mrduque.blogspot.com.
