Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) is an annual program dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science. Code.org, a non-profit dedicated to expanding computer science education, put out a challenge to have 10-million students participate in coding this week from December 9-15th. Mr. Duque’s sixth grade classes helped answer that challenge through participating in their “Learn an Hour of Code” program using Google Chromebooks.

Both science classes learned the basic concepts of computer science using Blockly, a drag and drop visual programming language, and tutorials starring video lectures by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies. If you would like to continue the lessons at home, visit http://learn.code.org/hoc/1!
