Mrs. Sette’s first graders were introduced to blogging this week with Kidblog.com. Students blogged about their experiences at the Heifer Learning Center, which included pictures taken using iPads during the field trip. Staff at school have made comments on the posts, which has both excited and driven the students to write for an audience.
A big part of the first grade Common Core Standards in Literacy is using a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers with guidance and support. Student writing through a blog succinctly captures these new standards.
Kidblog is built by teachers, for teachers, so students can get the most out of the writing process. Our mission is to empower teachers to embrace the benefits of the coming digital revolution in education. As students become creators – not just consumers – of information, we recognize the crucial role of teachers as discussion moderators and content curators in the classroom. With Kidblog, teachers monitor and control all activity within their classroom blogging community.
