Students in seventh grade are exploring monochromatic painting with Mrs. Sunday. The began with a discussion of “tints and shades.”
During this project students explored how to create lighter (tints) and darker (shades) using only a single color of paint mixed with either black or white paint to create variations.
Students each selected an inspiration photo and transferred the design to canvas using pencil. They also created a tint and shade guide using colored pencils to plan out the monochromatic color palette they would use to complete their painting.
Working from their pre-prepared tint and shade guide, students then began to put paint to canvas. Here’s a quick look at the students at work, some work in process, and a few finished pieces.
