Summer Reading: The summer months provide an opportune time to read, enjoy stories and learn new information from books. When parents and children read together, they are building language and new knowledge. They also create wonderful memories and experiences, which stay with children for many years. Our staff have put together summer reading lists designed to foster enjoyment of reading, to expose students to a variety of genres, and to encourage independent reading. It is intended to help students maintain reading proficiencies acquired during the school year.
Please see the descriptions of all book choices for summer 2021 reading linked here. Students will select the book that they’re interested in reading using a google form. As they read, students should think about the following Reflection Questions and then they will meet in Book Clubs (a group of students and one faculty member who read the same book) in the fall to discuss these questions, as well as any other thoughts that they might have.
*Although we believe that all choices are generally appropriate for students in grades 6-8, we have also included links to Common Sense Media when available to allow parents an opportunity to review choices for themes and content with their children. We have also included some Young Adult selections this year that may contain more mature themes and content. Parental permission will be required if students select these novels.
