Dear Kindergarten Parents,
We are excited to share more details about Kindergarten Screening, we are looking forward to seeing your students over the next few days! We wanted to provide you with more details about logistics for the Kindergarten screening and start of school.
When driving to BFCCPS please be sure to follow the driving directions posted here on our website: http://bfccps.org/about/contact/directions When you arrive at BFCCPS, you should pull all the way around the back of the building and take a space in the visitor parking lot. Since students may be outside on the playgrounds or fields, we ask you to please drive with caution at all times while on school grounds.
Kindergarten Screening: Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your appointment time to sign in. Our staff will greet you at the back door just behind the small kindergarten playground (labeled Door Two) where you will sign your student in for the screening process. We hope to run the check-in process outside, but if the weather is not cooperative, we will ask you to step inside briefly to check in. (If check in takes place indoors, you will need to wear a mask to step inside the building.) Students must wear a mask to enter the building in accordance with DESE guidance.
Parents will be asked to wait in their cars during the screening process which is expected to last 30 minutes or less. Your student will be walked back out to meet you when their appointment is concluded. There will be some brief paperwork for you to fill out during this time.
Kindergarten Open Houses are scheduled on Wednesday, September 8th. A parent must attend the open house with the student, this is not a drop off event. Please find times for the open house based on which homeroom your child is assigned to:
9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Students assigned to Miss Burns and Mrs. Tagen’s classes
12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Students assigned to Mrs. Jumes and Mrs. DiNapoli’s classes
Kindergarten Students have an Early Release on Thursday September 9th and Friday September 10th, Kindergarten students will have a half day with early dismissal at noon. Students who take the bus may take it to school on the mornings of September 9th and 10th. However, all students must be picked up mid day at noon on the 9th and 10th as we do not have bus service mid-day. Please note that instructions for parent pickup will be provided soon, handed out at screening and posted to the school website.
The first full day of school for our Kindergarten students will be Monday, September 13th. Bus service will be available for registered students both in the morning and after school.
To get prepared for the first day of school for Kindergarten, please be sure to take care of the following checklist:
- FamilyID – School Year Registration
- SchoolBrains Parent Portal: Update contact information and provide emergency contacts
- SNAP – Update your child’s Health Portal
- School Dismissal Manager – Be sure to update your child’s dismissal method
We look forward to seeing you and are excited for the year ahead!
