First graders were excited to celebrate National Poetry Month by reciting published poems and writing and sharing their very own poems about spring.
Students in Mrs. Heroux’s class read a selection of Shel Silverstein poems, while Mrs. Sette’s class shared their original poems. Students learned about different styles of poetry and in small groups they wrote a five-senses poem, an acrostic poem, a riddle poem, a rhythm poem and a we like poem. What a fantastic way to kick off Poetry Month!
At the end, both classes sang a fun song together to welcome the spring season!
