Dear BFCCPS Community,

I hope that this update finds you all well and enjoying the summer so far. Following last week’s updates from the CDC, I understand that the BFCCPS community may have questions about health and safety protocols for the upcoming school year.

Similar to last year, we expect that the health and safety requirements for education during a pandemic will be fluid and changing over the course of the 2021-2022 school year.

To help us navigate the ever changing health and safety guidance last year, we created a Medical Advisory Team, composed of members of the BFCCPS Administration, our School Nurse Leader, as well as parents/guardians in the field of public health and medicine including pediatricians, cardiologists and nurses. This team, in conjunction  with DESE guidance, input and feedback from our school physician, Dr. Mary Lyons, and both the Department of Public Health and our local boards of health, made recommendations on how to manage a full return to in person instruction last spring.  We were fortunate to have such dedicated members of our school community work together to help with the planning of the remainder of the school year.  They have agreed to continue to advise us as we plan for a full return to in person instruction this fall.

The Commissioner of Education, in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health,  has released fall recommendations for health and safety in schools.  These recommendations can be found here.  We will consult with Dr. Lyons, the Franklin  Board of Health, and other area schools, and then review their input and feedback recommendations with our Medical Advisory Team to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees as to what health and safety  parameters should  be  in place for the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year as we navigate another educational year through a pandemic.

We will send out an announcement of when the Board will be reviewing the Medical Team’s recommendations as well as how  you can request access  to the virtual meeting if you would like to attend.  We will also communicate their decision as soon  as possible so that faculty, staff and families have the time to plan  for whatever health and safety parameters are put in place.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these recommendations.  If you have any questions, please  let me know.

Sincerely,

Heather Zolnowski
