What went on in room three this week?
(June 18 - 22)

Happy summer!  It’s been such a great year with this group of students and their families.  I have truly enjoyed working with everyone!

I want to stress a few very important facts about summer vacation.  Research shows students lose between two to four months of the skills and strategies developed and strengthened throughout the school year over the short summer break.  It is VITAL for everyone to read daily over vacation.  I understand students will miss reading periodically, but if your child does not read consistently over vacation he/she will notice this when starting third grade and it will affect his/her confidence and attitude towards school.  This is also true for studying math facts.  If your child will go on XtraMath without a battle—encourage this!  Again, students are expected to know addition and subtraction facts quickly and accurately very early in the year during third grade.  Multiplication and division will soon follow so please, please, please encourage your child to practice his/her math facts this summer.

Paper report cards are a thing of the past and will not be mailed out this year.  Parents can access report cards on School Brains on Friday, June 22.  If you are not sure about your login information, please email Deb Leonard at

Summer reading lists with assignments, as well as supply lists are also available electronically on the school website.   For those students in school on Friday, a paper copy of these were placed in your child's mailbox.

Again, it has been my pleasure working with all of you and your children.  Thank you for all the support you’ve provided throughout the school year.  Have a wonderful summer break!  I hope to see you again soon!
