Dear Families,

Wow, is the time flying in Room 7!  I cannot believe next week it will be June already!

We had a very exciting week with celebrating the amazing gift of books and reading!  We had a special visit from author Margie Markarian, where she read her story "The Princess and the Cafe on the Moat"; the children loved this story...what a special treat!  We had a blast on pajama day and dress up like your favorite book character day!  We had fun reading many different stories and discussing our favorite books.

In Wonders we  answered essential question "What jobs can you do at home to help out?" We added sight words "too" and "help" to our word wall and practiced comparing and contrasting different types of texts (fantasy/informational- different/similar settings, characters, plots, etc.).  We learned what types of words need to begin with upper-case letters, including days of the week, months, names, and specific places.  We continued to practiced sounding out words when both reading and writing.

In Math we practiced adding, subtracting, and comparing written numerals and groups of objects using greater than, lesser than, and equals to.

In Science we read the story "The Tiny Seed" and learned more about what plants need to survive.  We made grass people by creating faces on Styrofoam cups and then planting grass in them; once the grass grows, we will give them "haircuts" :)!  We let our beautiful butterflies go and watched them fly away!

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Heroux (BFCCPS first grade teacher), for being our mystery reader today!

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or comments at anytime!
