Dear Families,

We had a great week in Room 7!  We are continuing to get to know each other, as well as our school rules and routines.  This week we came up with our classroom rules (1. Keep your body in control, 2. Take care of yourself, your friends, and our classroom, and 3. Always try your best).

This week we began our Math Expressions curriculum; we practiced ordering numbers 1 through 5, practiced counting objects, and read the story "Anno's Counting Book".  We also practiced creating our own scenes using numbers 2 and 3.  During morning meeting we are practicing using the greater than, lesser than, and/or equals sign when counting the answers of our question of the day.

In Wonders we answered essential question "Who is in your family?" and talked about our own families and what we like to do with our families.  We practiced identifying letters Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, and Nn and practiced identifying the sight word "can".  We practiced our learning centers this week, which we will take part in each day while I am meeting with small groups to practice reading skills.  Our learning centers are 1. writing in our journals, 2. word work (using play doh, wikki stix, white boards, magnetic letters, etc. to practice making words, letters, and numbers), 3. reading, 4, art, and 5. ipads.  When practicing our reading learning center, we learned how to choose "right fit books" and practiced using our reading buddy rugs, stuffed animals, and reading tools to help us as we read.

In Science we read the story "Mix it up" and did an experiment where we used shaving cream in ziplock bags and food coloring; we mixed the food coloring into the shaving cream to create new colors...the children loved this experiment!

We read the story "The Crayon Box that Talked" and discussed the many ways we can be good friends and classmates.  We then made a "friendship tree" with our fingerprints.

We are so proud of our kindergarten friends!

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or comments at anytime!
