Karen LaPlaca

As the reading specialist, I have the wonderful opportunity to do a little bit of everything while working to support BFCCPS students in developing and enhancing literacy skills.   I take small groups for reading intervention, go into classrooms for inclusion support, consult with teachers, offer middle school MCAS support with some students,  meet with parents to provide strategies to support your reader at home, and organize DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessments with all K-4 students.

My goal for this website is to provide parents with some helpful  tools to assist you in your role as primary educator.  Reading at home is crucial to developing reading skills at every age.  Read everything and read often...that is the key to success!

I am at BFCCPS on Monday-Thursday.  There is also a reading aide that works Tuesday-Thursday with our students.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, or advice.  Because I am only at school 4 days a week, email is the best way to contact me.  I am here to assist you in any way possible!

Thank you!
