This Week in Room 2
We can’t believe the year is almost over. The boys and girls have been very excited looking at our countdown get smaller and smaller. We had a great week together! On Tuesday, we walked to the common to listen to the school orchestra and chorus perform. It was a beautiful morning and the children enjoyed listening to the music.
In ELA this week, we completed our final week in the Wonders book. This week we explored poetry. We discussed metaphors, rhythm, and repeating lines in poems. We read several different poems in class and the boys and girls wrote their own poem about using their imaginations. We also had our final spelling test of the year on Friday. The 2nd graders should continue to read over the summer. This will help keep their fluency and comprehension sharp before starting third grade in August.
In Social Studies, we learned about Japan this week. We read a book about different Japanese customs and traditions. The boys and girls have really enjoyed learning about other countries and cultures and comparing them to our own.
In Math, we continued our exploration of halves, thirds, and fourths. We also learned about perimeter and practiced computing the distance around different shapes. We had math stations on Wednesday, and used this block to review time.
We were busy this week working on a Father’s day card for our dads. The children put a great deal of effort into these. They came out great!
NO SPELLING NEXT WEEK!!
Have a great weekend!
