I am pleased to write you today to make you aware of positive progress on the status of the Charter Amendment requests that were submitted to the DESE this past August. As mentioned in the update which was sent in January, upon the submission of some supporting documentation, we believed that a decision on those requests was likely sometime in March. We learned today that the Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education will be recommending to the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) that both of our amendment requests be approved at their March 25, 2014 BESE meeting.

Although the amendments require the approval of the BESE, the support and recommendation of the Commissioner is paramount in our amendments gaining the BESE approval. This is a huge step in our Amendment approval process.

This has been a fantastic year for BFCCPS and demand for seats at our school is higher than ever. During this past enrollment period we received over 500 applications, the most applications we have ever received in a single year, and a 35% increase over last year. That increase in applications was integral in gaining approval from the Commissioner. The increase in applications was due to a strong community effort and is a testament to what a great institution we have.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for BFCCPS! We will keep you updated as we get more information on the BESE meeting, and their ultimate decision.

Thank you for your continued support,

Don Tappin
