♦ The 10th Annual BFCCPS Spelling Bee♦
Open to ALL 4th-8th grade students
February 6th & February 7th
For the 10th year BFCCPS will be holding a Spelling Bee. The purpose of the National Spelling Bee program is “to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.” This year, all of the words from the 2019 School Spelling Bee Study List will be taken from engaging, grade-appropriate books, allowing your son or daughter to get to know these words in the context of great stories. In offering this opportunity to BFCCPS students, we aim to provide an educational and fun opportunity for students looking for an academic challenge.
The competition is open to any 4th-8th grade student who is interested. To enroll, any interested student needs to return the Enrollment Slip at the bottom of this page to their homeroom teacher by Monday, February 4th.
To help prepare, each student will be able to access the Spelling Bee documents (Spelling Bee Rules and Guidelines, Study Words, Spell It: Tips and Tricks for Spelling Bee Success) on the BFCCPS website.
The competition will be held in two parts. The first part will be held during school hours February 6th. The top ten students will then compete the next day, February 7th, at 1:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. The second day of the competition will be open to the community to attend. For more information please visit www.spellingbee.com, or email Jeff Levering, Assistant Head of School at jlevering@bfccps.org
In the past, BFCCPS has sent the school champion to a regional competition. At the moment, however, this regional competition has not been announced and may still be awaiting funding to proceed. If the regional competition is held, the BFCCPS champion will have the opportunity to participate.
