Inspired by the famous children’s illustrator Eric Carle, first graders in Ms. Wolfe’s visual arts class designed “collage creatures” using various artistic techniques. Using painting tools, students mixed colors to create textured paper for their animal or creature. After cutting the paper and applying strips using glue, students designed their subject on top of the background. Students honed their skills, cutting, pasting and collaging.

Just some of the books reviewed for inspiration by Eric Carle were; The Hungry Caterpillar, The Mixed-up Chameleon, Dragons Dragons and Mister Seahorse.
