Dear BFCCPS Community,
It has been tragic to witness the sharp increase in anti-Asian sentiment, racism and violence in America since the pandemic began in early 2020. Recently, devastating hate crimes have taken place both in Oakland and Atlanta. These are unspeakable tragedies and our hearts are with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. BFCCPS condemns ongoing acts of hate, violence, and racism in any form.
As we’ve said before BFCCPS is more than a school, this is our community. We are committed to not only a robust academic education, but also on the importance of good character. For our students, faculty, staff and families, we have a shared commitment to the life-long pursuit of virtue, notably Justice. A life of justice means treating others with respect and taking responsibility for their well-being; fairness.
Working in partnership with Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham at Promoting Good, our faculty and staff, and Board of Trustees are fostering a dialogue about race and racial inequities. Our first full staff professional development session took place last week, and was only the beginning of our work to eradicate conscious and unconscious bias here at BFCCPS. Currently, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team includes representation from our faculty, staff and board, we will be expanding this team to include members of our parent community in the near future.
If your family needs support, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the BFCCPS Administration, The BFCCPS Mental Health Team or your child’s teacher. A variety of resources are linked here and we will continue to identify more to add to our Counseling Corner Website.
Be Kind Ben Franklin,
BFCCPS Executive Director
