As part of our commitment to the education of the whole child, BFCCPS incorporates regular field trip excursions as part of our curriculum across all grade levels.  As an example, subsequent to our Grade 1 students studying Ancient Egypt, they took a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts to see actual Egyptian artifacts.

Last week, our students in Grade 6 had a chance to visit the Franklin Public Library. The visit is timed to coordinate with the Let’s Research class held during their First Trimester Classical Enrichment Block and also dovetails nicely with the student’s current Geography lesson about Greece. Our famous library’s design features a Grecian architectural influence.  During the visit students were introduced to the different types of columns – Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian; and after viewing three rooms in the library, the students were able to identify each of the Greek elements that are present.  Students also learned about the history of the Franklin Library and the community at large, and the original collection of books which were donated by Dr. Benjamin Franklin.

When students are participating in adventures off-site Twitter is often used an easy way for the BFCCPS community to follow their adventures. You can easily find Tweets related to the school by searching the hashtag #BFCCPS.  As an example, you’ll see a snapshot of the 6th grade’s recent visit to Battleship Cove.

Recently students in Grades Seven and Eight took a walking adventure to FSPA and THE BLACK BOX to see a performance from students who had participated in Introduction to Dance during their weekly Classical Enrichment Block. The teachers at FSPA had such a nice time working with the students and were truly sad to see them go. Congratulations to the students on a job well done!  The FSPA classes will be offered again this coming spring as part of the Classical Enrichment Block.

Second trimester has officially kicked off. You will find the newest Scope and Sequence documents posted online. These documents are provided as a tool that parents can use to support their child’s academic success.  You will find an overview of the upcoming curriculum topics, as an example here’s a glance at the Scope and Sequence for Grade four.
