On February 6th, students and faculty celebrated Digital Learning Day with a variety of fun activities. Our school is very fortunate to have excellent technology resources for both students and staff, which we use to infuse our curriculum with technology integrated lessons. In addition to all of the learning that takes place during school, there are plenty of opportunities to grow outside the school walls as well. Walking around the school today, it was exciting to see students and teachers demonstrating the power of the digital tools they have at their disposal!

Digital Learning Day Resources for Faculty

edtech-challenge-logoOur staff was introduced to the resources made available on EdTechChallenge.com and all have been invited to participate in the initial technology survey and a self-paced, scaffolded technology integration course for educators. After completing the survey, a personalized learning plan with actionable goals are created and to track professional development over time with our teachers! We hope some staff will take the opportunity to use the EdTechChallenge.com resources to further deepen their knowledge of integrating technology into the class.

Also, a Google folder infused with Google Apps for Education and Common Core lesson plans was shared with the ability to copy, adapt and modify the lesson plans. Please feel free to view and download the Digital Lesson folder. You’ll need a Gmail account for access!

Digital Learning Day Resources for Parents

common-sense-logoAs 21st century students, the promotion of digital citizenship inside and outside of the classroom is of extreme importance. Common Sense Media provides excellent materials, designed to empower students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. Lessons are age-appropriate and are easy to browse and discuss with your children. Click here for Common Sense Media curriculum resources.

As you may know, we have set up a webpage designed to showcase Technology in the Classroom on a rolling basis. It is a nice way to check-in with the exciting technology integration at BFCCPS. The Technology in the Classroom page is located under News on the website menu bar.

Digital Learning Day Links & Resources for Students

ninjasmasterOpen to all fifth through eighth grade students (parents as well!), our Google Ninja Program was recently created to dive deeper into the Google Apps for Education programs: Gmail, Drive, Calendars and Search. BFCCPS students will be using the same online learning environment and tools Google has dedicated to teachers to learn how to effectively use Google Apps in an educational context. Make sure to visit our Become a Google Apps Ninja page.

Our seventh graders recently created Science Fair Prezi presentations. Please take  look at Mrs. Herliczek’s class and Mr. Callahan’s class. Eighth graders have been diligently working on their Capstone presentations and also created a Prezi presentation to promote and practice their speaking skills in front of their peers. Please take a look at Mrs. Kelly’s class and Mrs. DiMartino’s class presentations.
