2019-2020 School Year Calendar:

For the 2019-2020 school year, we will be starting after Labor Day, with a first day of school for students in grades 1-8 on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. 

Kindergarten students will come in with their parents on Wednesday, September 4 for an Open House at 9:30.  Kindergarten has noon dismissals on both Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6. (Kindergarten students must be picked up at noon on these two days; mid-day bus service is not available and After-School Care will not be in session between 12 and 3:05.) 

Tuesday, September 3- Friday, September 6 are full days for our students in grades 1-8. 

Please print and download the approved school calendar found here.  Please take note of all school closures and early release days.  Tentative days for the last day of school are marked for both Kindergarten and the rest of the school; these dates are subject to change based on any unforeseen school closures.

School Start Times:

The school day begins at 8:15 for students in Grades 6-8. Parents who drop their children at school may do so beginning at 8:00 am unless their child is participating in before school Chorus, Band or Morning Care in which case they may arrive as early as 7:30 am. Please note that students in Grades 6-8 who are not in their classroom by 8:20 am will be marked tardy. Any students who are tardy must sign into the office to obtain a tardy pass.



The school day begins at 9:00 for students in Grades K-5. Parents who drop their children off at school may do so beginning at 8:45 am. Please note that students who are not in their classroom by 9:00 am will be marked tardy. If you need childcare coverage before 8:45 am, morning care is available for a fee beginning at 7:30 am.

Summer Reading:

The summer months provide an opportune time to read, enjoy stories and learn new information from books. When parents and children read together, they are building language and new knowledge. They also create wonderful memories and experiences, which stay with children for many years. Our staff have put together summer reading lists and projects designed to foster enjoyment of reading, to expose students to a variety of genres, and to encourage independent reading. It is intended to help students maintain reading proficiencies acquired during the school year.
Summer reading assignments for the 2019-2020 school year are tied to the BFCCPS Four Virtues; you can learn more about Fortitude, Justice, Prudence and Temperance here on our website.
Kindergarten through Grade Five:  All students in Kindergarten through Grade Five have reading lists and assignments posted. Please visit this google folder to download your child’s summer reading list and assignment.
Grades 6-8: This year we will be using a new model of summer reading assignments for students in grades 6-8 that we’re calling Summer Book Clubs. Students will be assigned one of their five choices before leaving for summer vacation and receive a general list of questions for reflection as they read. Note that there is no written assignment associated with Book Clubs. At the start of next school year students will meet will their Book Clubs, other students and a faculty member that read the same book, to discuss their books, including character connections. Summer Math Enrichment:

Kids and adults alike enjoy playing games that are fun and motivating. Games give students opportunities to explore fundamental number concepts, such as the counting sequence, one-to-one correspondence, and computation strategies. Engaging mathematical games can also encourage students to explore number combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts. Further, they afford opportunities for students to deepen their mathematical understanding and reasoning. Providing repeated opportunities for students to play games, allows mathematical ideas to emerge as students notice new patterns, relationships, and strategies.

School Supply Lists:

We have gathered supply lists for each grade to eliminate the guess work of what will be needed for the school year.  As you begin to purchase supplies, make sure to keep this checklist handy to make your back-to-school shopping as easy as 1, 2, 3!  School supply lists for all grades can be found in this Google Drive Folder.

Bus Transportation:

Franklin Transportation: Residents of Franklin should have been contacted by the Franklin Transportation Department by email. These notices were sent on May 3. It is important to note that they will not send additional reminders regarding this service. You will need the ID number provided in the email to register your child for the bus via the Franklin Transportation Department. Registration will be completed online via UniBank.

Bus routes will be posted on the FPS Transportation Website in mid August. Bus passes may be picked late August at BFCCPS. Please stay tuned for further details.


Regional Transportation: Registration for the Regional Bus Program is now open to regional students of the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School. Registration details have been sent directly to parents of regional students enrolled for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are a regional family, and did not receive this letter, please contact Mrs. Schwab at dschwab@bfccps.org. Please note that these bus stops are subject to change based on the results of the registration. Registration is open through June 7th.


Non-regional students will be eligible to enroll in the event that spaces are still available following the June 7th regional student registration deadline. Regional Bus Routes can be viewed here.

Morning Care:

BFCCPS will offer morning care for students starting at 7:30 am.

Registration will be for particular days of the week for the duration of the school year, i.e., every Monday or every Wednesday. Payment is for recurring days of the year. For example, $180 for all the Mondays, $180 for all the Tuesdays etc; yearly total for students needing care all five days is $900.

Please scroll for specific discounts for families with multiple students enrolled and a staff discount if applicable.

Before school tuition is paid monthly, over the ten (10) month period from August through May, and has been divided into ten equal payments. (Payment in full is also welcome.)

After-School Care:

We are thrilled to announce that registration for the 2019-2020 After-School Care program is now available. 300 spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Students must be picked up by no later than 6pm. Registration will be for particular days of the week for the duration of the school year, i.e., every Monday or every Wednesday.  Registration for the program will close on August 1, 2019.

Students must be pre-registered, no drop in services are available. After-School Care tuition is paid monthly, over the ten (10) month period from August through May, and has been divided into ten equal payments. (Payment in full is also welcome.)

PLEASE NOTE: Our teachers and after school providers will participate in professional development on early release days. With this in mind, we will not be able to offer After-School Care on our early release and full-day professional development days. If you need care on vacation and professional development days, we encourage you to contact local providers that offer drop in services or local camps.

We are excited to announce that we are now offering the convenience of online registration through FamilyID
FamilyID is a secure registration platform that provides you with an easy, user-friendly way to sign school policies, such as handbook agreements, media releases, and responsible use policies, and helps us to be more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible. When you register through Family ID, the system keeps track of your information in your Family ID profile. You enter your information only once for each family member for multiple uses and multiple programs.
A number of online forms and registrations will take place using FamilyID over the next few months so you might want to register for FamilyID at this time to streamline future registrations and online forms that are shared.
To register for programs with our FamilyID software you will need your student’s “StudentID”; we will be using their Locally Assigned Student Identification/LASID. All parents should have received their child(ren)’s LASID by email just now; please be sure to sure to save this code for future reference.  Please note that forms that are filled out with a missing or incorrect LASID will be marked as incomplete.  

School Dismissal Manager:

Using School Dismissal Manager with your desktop or smartphone browser, you can quickly and easily update instructions when your child’s dismissal needs to be changed.

The easy-to-use mobile and desktop interface will allow you to make these changes in advance or for the current day. You can also report absences, early dismissals, and even schedule recurring dismissal instructions for after-school activities such as Art Club, Drama Kids, Science Club or Lego League on the desktop version. Free apps are also available for Android and iPhone users.

School Dismissal Manager provides us with a more organized and efficient tracking system for afternoon dismissals. We ask all families to update their dismissal instructions using School Dismissal Manager by 9 am on August 26th so we can ensure we have accurate information on how your child(ren) should be sent home.

When creating an exception for the current day, please note that the cut-off time is 1:59 on regular days and 10:59 on early release days. In order to ensure an accurate and safe dismissal, it is our expectation that all changes are made on the system before the daily deadline.  In the event of an extreme emergency you can contact the school office after the deadline to make any changes for the current day.

SchoolBrains Parent Portal:

BFCCPS Parents will have access to a Parent Portal offered through our Student Information System, SchoolBrains.  SchoolBrains is a dynamic Information System that allows all BFCCPS faculty and staff to access student information in one location. Not only is it used for contact information, but also for grading and report cards.  The Parent Portal is your access to this information for your student(s).  All parents have access to update their contact information, as well as to see attendance data for each student.  For our students in grades 5-8, all assignments, tests, and quizzes are also listed in the Parent Portal, so parents can keep track of how their students are doing between report cards.

New families will be issued a login and password over the summer for each student they have enrolled at BFCCPS.


BFCCPS Parents have many opportunities to volunteer in the school including Kindergarten lunch volunteers, field trip chaperones, art and library volunteers and “mystery reading” in the K-4 classrooms.  All volunteers must complete a CORI check at least two days in advance of their volunteer day.  Once approved, a CORI is valid for three years.

Please note that an appointment is required in advance and that CORI processing can not be accommodated during arrival, dismissal or lunch-time. Office hours will be posted in mid-August. 

Breakfast and Lunch Ordering:

Information on our Breakfast and Lunch Ordering system will be available in August 2019.
