As established in Article Two of the Bylaws, Board Committees assist both the Board of Trustees and the Head of School and include parents and teachers in their membership. Many of the important decisions that will be ultimately decided upon by the Board of Trustees are brought to the committees first.

Committees:

Description:

The Finance Committee is empowered to make recommendations and report to the Board regarding all financial matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for the development, oversight and review of the budget, changes and additions to the budget, overall school financial performance, and management of school investments.

Goals:
Maintain the financial stability of the school.
Produce a balanced and reasonable budget by the May Board meeting of each year.
Monitor the revenue and expenditures of the school on a monthly basis to insure compliance to the approved budget.
Make timely recommendations to the Board to address any unplanned financial needs or unexpected financial events.
Work to implement goals and initiatives set by the Board of Trustees and the Head of School.
Monitor the school’s investments and maintain a balance between risk and return.
Ensure that the school has a successful annual audit
Qualifications for Committee Membership:

Expertise in finance, accounting, auditing, budget development, and/or management is highly desirable, but not mandatory. Parents, school staff and qualified candidates not affiliated with the school are eligible to join the committee.

Expectations of Committee Members:

All Finance Committee members are expected to regularly attend monthly meetings, read/review materials before meetings, and actively participate during committee discussions. Members are expected to share their expertise freely for the benefit of the school. Additional meetings may be called, as needed, and committee members may elect to join various subcommittees that may be formed. Committee members may volunteer or be asked to do committee tasks outside of committee meetings.

Description:

The Facility Committee is empowered to make recommendations and report to the Board of Trustees regarding all facility related matters. As a board level committee, its purview does not include the day-to-day operations of the school.

Goals:
Provide BFCCPS students, faculty and staff with an environment that is a safe and conducive to learning.
Make timely recommendations to the Board regarding any unforeseen or unplanned for facility related issues.
Participate in expansion related matters concerning facilities as requested by the Board of Trustees.
Work with Landlord as needed through expansion/development process.

Qualifications for Committee Membership:

Expertise in facilities construction or management is highly desirable but not mandatory. Parents, school staff and qualified candidates not affiliated with the school are eligible to join the committee.

Purpose:

The Governance Committee reviews the school’s policies, rules, and procedures. The Committee, when necessary, drafts new policies and procedures and recommends amendments to existing policies and procedures for the Board’s consideration.

Goals:

Review board policies and revise as necessary based on a revolving 3-year schedule to comply with annual report requirements. Ensure that reviewed policies follow the standard policy format.

Committee Members

Qualifications: There are no specific qualifications as the committee welcomes any BFCCPS parent, teacher or administrator willing to serve. Expertise in law or board governance is sought, but not required.

Expectations: Prepare for and participate in regularly scheduled meetings. Review and update policies as assigned.

Description:

The Human Resources Committee is empowered to make recommendations and report to the Board of Trustees regarding all Human Resources related matters.

Goals:

Make timely recommendations to the Board regarding human resources related issues.
To review and assist in maintaining the compensation and benefit structure.

Expertise in human resources is highly desirable but not mandatory. Parents, school staff, and qualified candidates not affiliated with the school are eligible to join the committee.

As a board level committee its purview does not include the day-to-day operations of the school. Staff and parents operating under the direction of the Head of School carry out implementation of the Mission. However, the HOS may at his/her discretion request assistance from the committee for particular issues as they arise.

The Mission Committee provides an optimal forum for investigating the varied perspectives of board members, faculty/staff and parents on Mission and Curriculum issues. The committee supports the Board of Trustees’ need to reflect in their Mission and Curriculum policy decisions, understanding of the views of all stakeholders.
