As part of her Capstone Project, Grade 8 Student Kelly M. invited Officer Gilboy from the Franklin Police Department, Officer Pichel along with his K-9 partner Brady from the Mendon Police Department, and Joshua from Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog to spend the morning at BFCCPS.
Students in Grade Four and Five attended an assembly with Kelly’s invited guests to learn about the types of work that K-9 officers perform, and were treated to a fascinating demonstration of their work. Students also got a close look at the bullet/stab proof vest that dogs wear. Did you know that these vests can cost more than $2,000? Through her Capstone Project Kelly has raised $800 for Vest-a-Dog to help offset the costs to local police departments to have a K-9 on staff.
Many thanks to Kelly for arranging this demonstration and for her fundraising which will make it easier for additional towns to have a K-9 unit in place.
