During art class, students observed a variety of Ugly Dolls created by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim. We discussed how all the Ugly Dolls add different characteristics and that ugly can mean unique, creative, and beautiful. The students then sketched and designed a stencil for their own fabric creatures. Then they traced the stencil shape onto fabric and cut it out. Next, the students began exploring sewing techniques to add details to bring their creatures to life.
